I Hear Voices And It’s Fine

“No, officer, I don’t have a NJ Boat Safety Certificate.”

I haven’t posted anything in a while. That’s because blog posts are a complete waste of time. I really don’t know why you’re reading this. Really, you should be doing something better.

But I’m glad you’re here. This is the perfect place to see that you have a more interesting life than I do. Admit it, that’s why you came.

Of course, I did get drunk and commit several felonies with Edward Teach the other night. Ed was a pirate better known as Blackbeard, before he was shot five times and decapitated. It’s possible my entire evening did not take place. I’ve been working on my schizophrenia.

I’m not trying to get rid of it – I’m trying to develop it to my advantage. So far, so good. I appreciate the way Ed died on his feet with a sword in his hand, as opposed to rotting all day behind a desk with a donut in his mouth and diabetes in his blood.

Hearing voices is a cool thing. Seeing people that aren’t there is great. It’s certainly better than reality. And what is real, anyway? If you believe it and it feels good, that’s real enough.

In the news, the show at Café Improve went pretty well. It’s a great place to play. Bill was awesome on the cajon, and I’m sure his hands still hurt. If you were there, thanks for coming.

Joe – I like the lines “I’ve been working on my schizophrenia.

I’m not trying to get rid of it – I’m trying to develop it to my advantage.” That’s a nice twist against our tendencies to pathologize behavior outside the norm. Good blog point!

    Hey Joe,

I hope you don’t have diabetes. If you do, please find a way to get over it.

Now I know why your novels and short stories are interesting and so much fun to read. It’s the schizophrenia. How do I get some of that?

You’re a donut kind of guy, Ben. I guess it does have its advantages.
