Let’s Do It Again

“You gonna remake me? I’ve been made for 30 years!”

There’s a new Spiderman movie. But hey, didn’t they just make a Spiderman movie? This is a Hollywood trend – remaking old movies. Except that Spiderman isn’t an old movie, and it’s amazing how greed can create stupider and stupider trends.

When will they remake Star Wars? Or The Godfather? Sure, Al Pacino was terrific – but I’m sure a bunch of corporate bean-counters want to do it again with a hotter, younger cast. Clemenza will be played by Zack Efron, and all the action will be in 3D. When Zack eats a cannoli, he’ll be right in your face. You will practically taste the cream.

In the future, there will only be five movies. They’ll just keep remaking them.

What a sad, sad future you paint. If they actually dare to remake The Godfather I’m leaving the country. That’s sacred filmmaking ground. Maybe I’ll move to Italy?
